In a tragic accident in downtown Miami, a 24-year-old Instagram model named Maecee Marie Lathers caused a three-car wreck that resulted in the deaths of two people, including a father. Lathers confessed to being under the influence of a synthetic drug called “pink cocaine” and claimed she was from the future and had a crystal ball. The drug, also known as “tusi” or 2C, is linked to a dangerous Venezuelan gang and is prevalent in New York City’s drug scene. The accident occurred when Lathers ran a red light and crashed into a black Range Rover before attempting to flee the scene.
The collision involved Lathers’ car, the Range Rover, and a silver Suzuki sedan carrying three people. The driver of the Range Rover suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the Suzuki, identified as Abraham Ismael, had to be extricated from the car and later died at the hospital. The rear passenger in the Suzuki was killed instantly, while Ismael’s wife, Juanita Hernández, who was in the front passenger seat, survived the crash but sustained injuries. Hernández shared on GoFundMe that she is now unable to work due to her injuries and that her husband left behind a 16-year-old son.
Lathers, whose license had been suspended since January, tried to flee the scene but was stopped by bystanders who brought her back to the crash site. Police found Lathers vomiting and admitted to being under the influence of the party drug. During her court appearance, Lathers, who often features in revealing clothing and bikinis on her Instagram account, was fitted with a green anti-suicide vest. Prosecutors deemed her a potential flight risk due to the felony charges she faces, including four counts of driving without a license resulting in death or serious injury and four counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death or serious injuries.
The judge handling Lathers’ case, Mindy S. Glazer, stated that the Instagram model posed a danger to the community due to her impaired state and her attempt to flee the scene of the accident. Glazer ordered Lathers to be held on a $140,000 bond, with the condition that if the bond is paid, Lathers would be placed on house arrest with a strict “No Driving Order.” The tragic accident not only took the lives of two individuals but also left a family devastated and a community in shock. Lathers has been living in Florida since 2022 and has reportedly been associated with two modeling agencies, but her future now remains uncertain as she faces the legal consequences of her actions.
