The Palm Jebel Ali, a man-made island off the shore of Dubai, is set to be an eco-friendly development, including an eco-resort, wellness resort, wellness club, and other facilities. Developers have announced that 30% of the project will operate on renewable energy and more than 35,000 residents are expected to live there upon completion. Approved by Dubai’s ruler in May 2023, the island will cover 13.4 sq km, add 110 km of coast to Dubai, and be home to over 80 hotels and resorts. While there is no set opening date, off-plan villas are already being sold for millions and no hotel operator has been named yet.

The Palm Jebel Ali project, initiated by Nakheel in 2002, aimed to surpass the size of its sister island Palm Jumeirah. The construction involved extensive dredging and land reclamation using sand from the seabed to create residential, commercial, leisure, and hospitality sectors, including luxury hotels and marinas. Despite its ambitious goals, the project faced setbacks and delays, particularly due to the global financial crisis in 2008 which halted many developments in Dubai. It was not until 2023 that the project was revived and work resumed.

The list of facilities released by Nakheel for Palm Jebel Ali includes a Signature Yacht Club, Town Center, Lifestyle Mall, Leisure Park, Beach Clubs, Sunset Beach, Promenade, Family Club Beach, Iconic Tower with 360° Panoramic Views, Sunset Waterfront Promenade, Sports & Wellness Club, Family Resort, Signature Wellness Resort, Celebration Village, Gateway Towers, and an Eco Resort. These facilities are aimed at creating a comprehensive lifestyle experience for residents and visitors on the island.

The Palm Jebel Ali project is part of Dubai’s vision to expand its tourism and hospitality offerings, with a focus on luxury and unique experiences. The addition of an eco-resort, wellness resort, and other green initiatives shows a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The island’s development is a testament to Dubai’s ambition to create iconic destinations that attract visitors from around the world.

While the Palm Jebel Ali project has faced challenges and delays in the past, its revival in 2023 signals a new phase of development for the island. With plans for renewable energy use and a focus on wellness and eco-friendly facilities, the Palm Jebel Ali aims to set a new standard for sustainable luxury living in Dubai. As the project progresses and more details are released, it will be interesting to see how this man-made island evolves into a thriving community and tourist destination in the future.
