Apple released the sixth iOS 18 public beta on Aug. 29, more than two months after the software was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference. The beta includes new features such as RCS messaging, home screen customization options, an upgraded Calculator app, and improvements to the Maps app. One notable feature in Maps is the ability to ‘Search here,’ which gives users more control over their search area. It is recommended to download the beta on a secondary device to avoid potential bugs and battery issues.

During the upcoming September event, CNET will be providing live coverage of the iPhone 16 event, where Apple is expected to unveil new features and devices. With the iOS 18 beta still in development, it is important to remember that this is not the final version of the software. There may be additional features added before the official release in the fall. For those testing the beta, instructions on how to utilize the ‘Search Here’ feature in Maps are provided, allowing users to search specific areas without changes to the map orientation.

To use the ‘Search Here’ feature in Maps, users simply need to open the app, enter a term like “pizza” in the search box, and tap Search. The option to ‘Search here’ will appear at the bottom of the screen when zooming into a specific area or adjusting the search location. This feature aims to provide more accurate search results based on the designated area without altering the map view. It is important to note that since iOS 18 is a beta version, there may be some bugs or functionality issues. Apple is likely to release more betas before the final version is launched to the public.

For those interested in exploring more features of iOS 18, resources like hands-on experiences with the beta, tips for customizing the home screen, and an iOS 18 cheat sheet are available. Additionally, speculation about what may be unveiled at Apple’s September iPhone event can provide insight into future developments. As the release date for iOS 18 to the general public is still unknown, users can stay updated on new information and updates from Apple. Beta testers are encouraged to provide feedback on their experience with the software to help improve its performance before the official launch.
