The May long weekend at Mactaquac Provincial Park marked a busy start to the provincial camping season, with over two thirds of the sites booked. Park manager Kevin McWhirter noted that New Brunswickers, as well as visitors from Nova Scotia, Maine, and Quebec, were eager to get outside and enjoy the nice weather after a long winter. Families like Margaret Robertson’s, who came from Fredericton, took advantage of the perfect weather to have a fun weekend at the park with activities such as bouncy castles for the kids. Donna Malone and her wife Sherry Huybers, who came from Halifax, also enjoyed their time at the park and were impressed by its beauty.

Matthew Jelley, the new owner of Jellystone Park in Woodstock, N.B., is gearing up for his first camping season at the campground. He emphasized the importance of keeping guests happy in order to have a successful season. Both Jelley and McWhirter acknowledged the impact of weather on camping seasons, as good weather can lead to longer stays and repeat bookings for the following year. Fay Wright, who spent the weekend camping with her family, offered some advice to those interested in camping, suggesting they bring basic supplies like a tent, sleeping bag, food, and a barbecue, along with their loved ones.

The weekend at Mactaquac Provincial Park was deemed the best May long weekend in years by many visitors, due in part to the perfect weather. Families and friends gathered to enjoy various activities and make fun memories together. With last year’s less than ideal camping season in mind, many campers like Margaret Robertson were just looking forward to spending quality time with their loved ones and ensuring the kids had a great time. Donna Malone and Sherry Huybers, who had never been to the park before, were pleasantly surprised by their experience and the natural beauty of the park.

As the new owner of Jellystone Park, Matthew Jelley is focusing on ensuring his guests have a positive experience, as he believes that happy guests who want to return are key to a successful season. The impact of weather on the camping season was also highlighted by Jelley and McWhirter, who mentioned that good weather can lead to longer stays and increased bookings for the following year. Fay Wright shared some simple advice for those interested in trying camping, emphasizing the importance of bringing essential supplies and family along for a memorable experience outdoors.
