Netflix has announced that the popular Australian teen drama Heartbreak High has been renewed for a third and final series. The show is a contemporary update of the iconic 90s show and the second season achieved a whopping 2.3 million views in the week of its premiere. The director of content ANZ at Netflix expressed pride in renewing the show for its final season and working with the creative minds behind it. The second season quickly became one of the top ten most-watched shows in the world, reaching number one in Australia and seven in the global Top 10 English TV show list.

Heartbreak High season two is an eight-episode limited series that follows the main characters as they continue their studies at Hartley High. The show was renewed for a second season in 2022 after the first season was a smash hit with viewers, garnering 42.2 million viewing hours in just three weeks. The original Heartbreak High, which aired from 1994 to 1999, was set in the fictional Hartley High and tackled issues such as racism and human rights. The show made household names out of its stars, including Callan Mulvey and Ada Nicodemou.

Despite its expected popularity in Australia, Netflix executives were surprised when the show reached the top ten in more than 40 countries around the world. The second season of the Netflix reboot was released in April and quickly became one of the most-viewed programs in Australia and globally. It also reached the top ten in over 24 countries, including the UK and France. The success of the show has been attributed to its compelling storylines and engaging characters that resonate with audiences worldwide.

On Friday, a Netflix representative confirmed that Heartbreak High would return for a third season, which would be its final one. While fans were disappointed to hear that the show would be coming to an end, they are eagerly anticipating seeing how the storylines will be wrapped up in the final season. The show has been praised for its portrayal of important issues and its diverse cast, which has resonated with viewers of all ages. The director of content ANZ at Netflix expressed excitement for the final season and the opportunity to bring the show’s stories, culture, and in-jokes to fans around the world one last time.

The renewal of Heartbreak High for a third and final season marks a major milestone for the show and its creators. The success of the reboot has solidified its place as a beloved Australian teen drama with a global fan base. Despite its impending end, fans can look forward to one more season of drama, romance, and coming-of-age stories as the characters navigate their final year at Hartley High. The legacy of Heartbreak High will live on through its impact on viewers and the lasting impression it has made in the world of television.
