Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson made a stunning appearance at the US premiere of Doctor Who at Hollywood’s NeueHouse. The show is set to return on May 11 with two episodes, featuring Ncuti as the Doctor and Millie as sidekick Ruby Sunday. Millie, who previously appeared in Coronation Street, will be showcasing her final scenes on the show before her departure. Despite her exit, she has been actively promoting the series, while Varada Sethu has taken over as the new sidekick in the sci-fi series.

Millie’s departure from Doctor Who was reported in January after just one series, and Varada’s debut was confirmed last month. Despite this, Millie has continued to promote the show, while Varada has been filming. Russell T Davies, the showrunner, announced Millie’s role during the 2022 Children in Need fundraiser, and Millie made her debut in the 2023 Christmas special. The new Doctor, Ncuti, will bring a more emotional portrayal to the role, showing his emotions more visibly than previous Doctors. The series will explore the Doctor’s family and his connection with Ruby Sunday, an orphan.

At the premiere, Ncuti showcased his playful side in a stylish black and white suit with padded shoulders, complemented by a trendy biker belt. Russell T Davies praised Ncuti’s emotional portrayal, predicting he could become the next James Bond. The first episode, Space Babies, features the Doctor and Ruby Sunday on a baby farm, facing a terrifying monster. The second episode, The Devil’s Chord, sees the Doctor and Ruby Sunday meeting The Beatles and a powerful villain, played by Jinkx Monsoon. Doctor Who will be released at midnight on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ internationally.

Critics have shared their thoughts on the new season of Doctor Who, with some praising Ncuti Gatwa’s charismatic performance and emotional portrayal. The first episode, Space Babies, was described as a frothy sci-fi romp that would satisfy both new viewers and traditional fans. The second episode, The Devil’s Chord, was commended for its vivid, silly, and gripping storyline, with a larger-than-life villain. The new era of Doctor Who has been hailed for its ingenuity and embracing of change, with Ncuti Gatwa shining in his role as the Doctor.

In summary, the 15th season of Doctor Who will see Ncuti Gatwa taking on the iconic role of the Doctor with a more emotional portrayal. The show will explore the Doctor’s family, his connection with his new sidekick Ruby Sunday, and encounters with terrifying monsters and powerful villains. The new season has received praise for its charismatic lead performance, inventive storytelling, and emotional complexity. Fans can look forward to a fresh take on the beloved sci-fi series with new episodes airing on BBC One and online platforms.
