The Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, provided information about traffic inspections. He emphasized that 52.3% of accidents that occur in city centers involve motorcycle type vehicles. Yerlikaya stated that a total of 2,898,366 transactions related to “motorcycle inspections” were carried out by the end of 2024 (December 26th), especially in city centers where motorcycles are more commonly used.
Between December 19th and 26th, 2024, a total of 2,553,663 vehicles were inspected by the police and gendarmerie traffic teams. 74 drivers were fined for using devices (flashing lights) that have illuminated or audible warning signs attached to vehicles, which is not permitted by law. Additionally, 99,381 drivers were fined for speeding, 20,677 for not having a periodic vehicle inspection, 17,642 for not wearing a seatbelt, 10,833 for driving without a license, and 7,147 for not having compulsory auto insurance, making a total of 444,372 vehicles/drivers receiving fines.
Minister Yerlikaya emphasized the importance of safety in a social media post, stating, “Let’s be more careful when riding motorcycles, strictly adhere to all traffic rules, and do not forget to use helmets and protective equipment while riding. Journeys are meant to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you. In order to prevent accidents involving motorcycles, our traffic teams, as well as the police and Gendarmerie Law Enforcement Motorcycle Teams, are intensively continuing their inspections.”
