An Alabama mom, Tierra Tocorra Hill, was arrested after sheriff deputies discovered two kilograms of cocaine inside a blue Nike backpack worn by her 3-year-old child. The discovery was made during a search of her car and home, where deputies found $450,000 worth of narcotics and multiple firearms. The mom was living with her four children, ages 3, 8, 10, and 15, prompting a tip to the narcotics team about the large amounts of drugs inside the residence.
After surveillance of Hill’s home, deputies waited for her to leave in her car and then pulled her over in a traffic stop. During the search of her vehicle, they found 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, a handgun, and a small amount of marijuana. Despite this initial discovery, the investigators were granted a search warrant for Hill’s home, where they found the toddler with the blue backpack containing 2 kilograms of cocaine. Additionally, another kilogram of cocaine and two handguns were found in another backpack in the house, all easily accessible to the four children in the home.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch noted that it was clear the 3-year-old did not place the drugs in the backpack, given the weight of the two kilos, which are commonly referred to as bricks. He expressed concern for the children being left at home unsupervised with such dangerous items within reach. Burch stated that Hill did not simply make a poor decision, but rather a deliberate one, by transporting drugs and firearms in her car while leaving her children at home with even more drugs unattended.
Hill was charged with trafficking cocaine, second-degree possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence, and four counts of chemical endangerment of a child. The sheriff emphasized that her actions were intentional and put not only her own life but also the lives of her children at risk by having such dangerous substances and firearms easily accessible in the home. The children, who ranged in age from 3 to 15, were left unsupervised with the illicit drugs and weapons, posing a significant risk to their well-being.
