Mets win fifth game in a row after Francisco Lindor hits game-winning homer against Dodgers

The Mets secured a 9-4 victory against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, thanks in part to a go-ahead, two-run homer by Francisco Lindor in the seventh inning. This win extended the Mets’ winning streak to five games and marked their 11th win in 14 games after starting the season with five straight losses. However, the victory came at a cost as catcher Francisco Alvarez exited the game in the second inning with a left thumb injury, with no immediate update on his condition from the team.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who turned down a $325 million offer from the Mets to sign with the Dodgers for the same amount, struggled early in the game before settling in to pitch through the sixth inning. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Lindor’s homer was a pivotal moment in the game, with the Mets also getting offensive contributions from Starling Marte, DJ Stewart, and Harrison Bader. Bader had a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with an RBI, while Stewart homered earlier in the game and contributed an RBI single in the ninth inning.

The Dodgers made a comeback in the sixth inning, taking advantage of two errors by Joey Wendle to tie the game 4-4 against Mets pitcher Reed Garrett. Wendle, substituting at third base for Brett Baty, who was dealing with hamstring tightness, made errors on plays that allowed the Dodgers to score runs and even the score. The game featured notable moments, including Lindor’s homer, Stewart’s home run, and the defensive errors that helped the Dodgers come back before the Mets ultimately secured the win.

Pitcher Sean Manaea delivered a solid performance for the Mets, limiting the potent Dodgers lineup to two earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. This outing was an improvement from his previous start against the Royals, in which he gave up six earned runs. The Mets took an early lead in the game, scoring four runs against Yamamoto in the second and third innings, with contributions from various players, including Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, and Teoscar Hernandez.

Despite the injury to Alvarez, the Mets were able to maintain their lead and secure the win against the Dodgers, with a strong offensive performance and solid pitching by Manaea. The victory marked a significant moment in the Mets’ season, as they continued to build momentum after a slow start. The game showcased the resilience of the team as they overcame challenges, including injuries and defensive lapses, to come out on top against a tough opponent like the Dodgers. The win was a testament to the Mets’ ability to rally together and perform at a high level when it mattered most.
