Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced the launch of a new AI assistant with the Llama 3 model. The company stated that it will be shutting down its business-focused Workplace app to focus on artificial intelligence and the metaverse. Meta believes that the AI and metaverse technologies it is developing will fundamentally reshape the way people work. Existing customers of Workplace will be able to use the app until August 31, 2025, and will be given the option to transition to Zoom’s Workvivo product, the company’s preferred migration partner. Customers will also have access to their Workplace data for approximately a year after the app ceases functioning.

Workplace was introduced in 2016 as an online collaboration tool for corporate customers, offering features such as file sharing among colleagues and a hub for company policies and documents. In 2021, the app had 7 million paid subscribers. As Meta focuses on developing its metaverse and AI capabilities, it has made the decision to discontinue the Workplace app. The company has invested billions in these technologies while also cutting thousands of jobs in other departments. In April, Meta launched new AI-powered chatbots that displayed both impressive capabilities and some strange tendencies, such as trying to give away nonexistent items to members of a “Buy Nothing” group on Facebook.

The decision to shut down Workplace comes as Meta continues to invest in developing AI and metaverse technologies that it believes will transform the way people work. The company’s new AI assistant with the Llama 3 model is part of its ongoing efforts to advance in this area. Meta is positioning itself as a leader in the development of artificial intelligence and metaverse platforms, with a focus on reshaping the workplace environment. By discontinuing the Workplace app and directing customers to transition to other products, Meta is streamlining its offerings to focus on its core technologies and capabilities.

Meta’s move to shut down Workplace and prioritize AI and metaverse development reflects the company’s strategic vision for the future. By investing in new technologies like AI-powered chatbots and launching new AI assistants, Meta is positioning itself for growth and innovation in the digital space. The company’s decision to wind down Workplace and transition customers to other platforms demonstrates its commitment to advancing in cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to revolutionize how people work and collaborate. With the launch of its new AI assistant and ongoing investment in AI and metaverse technologies, Meta is taking steps to shape the future of work and digital interactions.

As Meta continues to expand its AI capabilities and develop the metaverse, the company is reshaping its offerings and focusing on innovations that have the potential to transform the way people interact and work. Meta’s decision to shut down Workplace and transition customers to other platforms underscores its commitment to advancing in artificial intelligence and metaverse technologies. By streamlining its product offerings and investing in cutting-edge technologies, Meta is positioning itself as a leader in the digital space. The launch of its new AI assistant with the Llama 3 model is a testament to the company’s dedication to advancing in AI and metaverse platforms, with the aim of revolutionizing the way people collaborate and work in the future.
