Meloni addressed the challenges faced by Latin American nations, especially in the context of human trafficking and organized crime. She emphasized the need for global cooperation and joint initiatives to combat criminal networks that exploit vulnerable populations. The President also expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and called for international support to address the political crisis in the country. She reiterated Italy’s commitment to upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter and defending the rights of countries like Ukraine and Israel to sovereignty and security, while advocating for a peaceful resolution to conflicts in regions like Palestine and the Middle East.
Looking ahead to the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, Meloni called for a serious reflection on the effectiveness of multilateralism and the need for reform within international organizations, including the UN. She emphasized the importance of a fair and representative reform process, rejecting the creation of new hierarchies that could undermine the inclusivity and democratic nature of the organization. The President concluded her speech by urging global leaders to confront the difficult challenges of our time with courage and integrity, with a focus on advancing justice, progress, and ethical governance.
