Meloni stressed the interconnectedness of problems between the Global South and North, advocating for a paradigm shift in international relations and multilateral cooperation. She underscored the principles of respect, sharing, and practicality as the foundation for a new model of cooperation. The President highlighted Italy’s efforts during its G7 Presidency to engage with various continents, including Africa, through projects like the Mattei Plan aimed at fostering partnerships and sustainable development initiatives across the continent. Looking ahead to the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, Meloni called for a serious reflection on the effectiveness of multilateralism and the need for reform within international organizations, including the UN. She reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to playing a constructive role in addressing global issues and fostering a more equitable and peaceful world.
