James Spencer, the president of the D. L. Moody Center in Northfield, Massachusetts, highlighted the expectation of friction from the world that Christians face, even on Easter. He emphasized the need to deepen one’s commitment to Christ through worship and discipleship as a response to such challenges. Spencer raised concerns about President Biden’s proclamation of March 31, 2024, as the “Transgender Day of Visibility,” which falls on Easter Sunday. While noting that the announcement drew backlash on social media, Spencer expressed more significant concerns about potential distractions for the Christian community during the Easter season.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates defended Biden’s inclusiveness message, stating that critics were trying to further divide the country. Bates emphasized Biden’s commitment to bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of all Americans. Spencer acknowledged the humanity of governing officials, urging compassion and endurance in the face of misguided actions. He encouraged Christians to follow Jesus’s example of loving their enemies and praying for those who persecute them. Spencer emphasized the need for Christians to focus on serving Christ rather than waiting for the world to change, reinforcing the importance of living lives of holiness and godliness while caring for others and proclaiming the gospel.

Spencer pointed out that enduring faithfully in a broken world is a crucial aspect of Christian life, emphasizing the cultivation of deep conviction in Christ’s teachings. He highlighted the importance of demonstrating unwavering loyalty to Christ as a response to political and social pressures. Spencer underscored the significance of aligning oneself with Christ rather than conforming to the expectations of the world. He urged Christians to reflect Christ’s example of submitting to the Father’s will in moments of adversity. Spencer emphasized the need for Christians to showcase the transformative power of Christ through their actions and attitudes, showing unwavering loyalty to a risen Savior who has authority over all things.

The Trump campaign criticized the White House for the Biden TDOV proclamation, calling for an apology to Catholics and Christians who view Easter Sunday as a day solely for celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Biden administration defended the proclamation, stating that transgender Americans are an integral part of the nation and deserve the same rights and freedoms as everyone else. Spencer’s response to the situation emphasized the importance of focusing on serving Christ rather than engaging in moral outrage, showcasing unwavering loyalty to a risen Savior. He highlighted the need for Christians to embody Christ-like virtues such as compassion, endurance, and faithfulness in the face of adversity.
