Gary O’Neil, the Wolves manager, has garnered interest from Manchester United as they look to strengthen their coaching staff in the summer. INEOS chiefs Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford are considering their options after acquiring a stake in the club. Gareth Southgate is reportedly a top choice to replace current manager Erik ten Hag, but other coaches are also being considered. There is a push for changes at Old Trafford, with new executives being brought in and potential replacements for key coaching roles.

O’Neil’s work at Wolves has been impressive, with the team performing well and keeping up with Manchester United in the league standings. While he may not be a direct replacement for ten Hag, O’Neil could be hired as a first-team coach under a new boss. United’s shortlist for a new manager includes Southgate, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank. O’Neil is said to be aware of United’s interest, and his contract with Wolves means that hiring him would require compensation.

Under O’Neil’s leadership, Wolves have achieved notable victories, including a win against Manchester City. Ratcliffe has outlined plans for significant changes at United, aiming to place the right people in key positions to create a supportive and high-quality environment for athletes. He believes that this overhaul will lead to success on the field. The focus on improving the coaching staff is part of a broader strategy to revamp the club and its performance in the upcoming seasons.

INEOS executives Brailsford and Ratcliffe are actively looking at options to reshape Manchester United in preparation for the summer. O’Neil’s successful track record at Wolves and Bournemouth has made him a top candidate for a coaching role at United. While Southgate remains a strong contender for the manager position, other coaches like O’Neil are also being considered. This signals a potential shift in direction and a focus on creating a winning culture at the club through strategic staffing decisions and leadership changes.

United’s pursuit of O’Neil highlights their commitment to building a strong coaching team to support player development and on-field success. By identifying key candidates like O’Neil, the club aims to bring in top talent to enhance their performance and compete at a higher level. The potential addition of O’Neil to the coaching staff represents a step towards achieving their goals of improving results and creating a positive environment for athletes. With INEOS backing this vision, United is poised for significant changes in the upcoming season.
