A Georgia man was arrested for setting fire to a trailer with his stepmother inside it after his mother refused to sell the lot. Police responded to the structure fire and found the trailer engulfed in flames with the woman trapped inside. The man, identified as Timothy Edward Lary, along with his father and a neighbor, were outside the burning trailer when police arrived. Edward Lary, the father, pointed to his son as the one responsible for setting the fire, which was confirmed when Timothy Edward Lary admitted to it.
Edward Lary explained to police that his son wanted his mother to sell the lot and give him the money from it. Timothy Edward Lary allegedly told his father and stepmother that he planned to burn down the trailer while they were at work. He then proceeded to set the fire by lighting papers on fire and throwing them onto a mattress in his room. When the fire began, Edward Lary ran out of the trailer, thinking his wife was right behind him. However, she never made it out as she ran back inside to rescue their pets. Firefighters later found the bodies of the woman and three pets inside the trailer.
Timothy Edward Lary was arrested at the scene and found in possession of a torch lighter and a small amount of marijuana. He was charged with felony murder, neglect to a disabled adult, elderly person or resident, three counts of cruelty to animals, three counts of first-degree arson, and two counts of aggravated assault. As he was driven away from the scene, Timothy Edward Lary allegedly made a callous remark about his stepmother’s ashes, indicating a lack of remorse for his actions. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home to gather further evidence in the case.
The tragic incident shook the community and raised concerns about the motivation behind Timothy Edward Lary’s actions. His father, Edward Lary, witnessed the events firsthand and cooperated with the police in the investigation. The family’s dynamics and relationships were called into question as the details of the incident unfolded.
