The content of the article focuses on a violent incident that occurred at a church in Wakeley, where an ultra-conservative bishop, Bishop Emmanuel, was stabbed. The police were called to the scene after reports of a disturbance, and during the night, projectiles were thrown at them. Some officers were injured as a result, with one constable sustaining a knee injury and a chipped tooth, while another suffered a broken jaw. The injured officers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The church issued a statement asking for prayers and calm, and the identity of the attacker is currently unknown.

The bishop, a leader in the Assyrian Orthodox faith, had a strong presence in the Christian Lives Matter movement and preached controversial sermons, including anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and pandemic skepticism. Witnesses reported that after being stabbed, Bishop Emmanuel prayed for his assailant. The community, including political and faith leaders, expressed shock and condemnation over the incident. NSW Premier Chris Minns urged the community to remain calm and follow the directions of the police and emergency services. The Police Association NSW confirmed that officers had been injured by projectiles thrown at them.

Federal MP Dai Le, representing the south-west Sydney electorate where the church is located, described Bishop Emmanuel as a respected leader in the Assyrian community. The Australian National Imams Council and the Australian Muslim community condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for unity against hate and violence. Faith NSW chief executive Murray Norman also denounced the incident, stating that an attack on one faith is an attack on all, and reaffirming the need for communities to come together to combat such violence.

The police presence in Wakeley was increased to control the growing crowds and maintain peace after the stabbing attack. The situation was deemed disturbing by NSW Premier Minns, who received briefings from the Commissioner of Police and NSW Health. He expressed sympathy for the victims and first responders involved in the incident. The police helicopter circulated overhead, issuing warnings to vacate the area, as a precaution. The investigation into the attack and the identity of the assailant are ongoing as police work to ensure the safety and security of the community.

The attack on Bishop Emmanuel underscores the need for greater cooperation among diverse faith communities and leaders to combat violence and uphold a sense of unity. The incident occurred amidst a week of mourning and tragedy, serving as a reminder of the importance of stamping out such acts of violence. The community in Wakeley, as well as political and faith leaders, expressed shock and solidarity in the aftermath of the stabbing, emphasizing the need for calm and collective action. The event has prompted calls for increased vigilance and cooperation to prevent similar incidents and foster a harmonious and inclusive society.
