Former President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100. He was born in Plains, Georgia, in 1924, and went on to have a successful career in politics and humanitarian work. Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and served in the Navy’s nuclear submarine program. In 1970, he was elected as the governor of Georgia before going on to win the presidency in 1976, defeating President Gerald R. Ford.

During his presidency, Carter achieved several notable accomplishments, including signing treaties to return the Panama Canal to Panama and mediating peace talks between Egypt and Israel at the Camp David accords. However, his time in office was also marked by challenges, such as the Iran hostage crisis and the failed attempt to rescue American hostages in Iran. Carter was succeeded by Ronald Reagan in 1980 after a single term in office.

After leaving office, Carter and his wife Rosalynn founded The Carter Center in Atlanta, which focuses on resolving conflicts, protecting human rights, and preventing disease worldwide. Carter also played a key role in various international negotiations and peace talks, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to find peaceful solutions to conflicts and promote human rights. He remained active in humanitarian work well into his later years.

In the years following his presidency, Carter continued to be a prominent figure in American politics and international affairs. He received various accolades and awards for his work, including a Grammy nomination for his spoken word album and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bill Clinton. Carter’s dedication to promoting democracy and human rights was evident throughout his life, as he continued to participate in various humanitarian missions and peace efforts.

In the final years of his life, Carter faced health challenges but remained engaged in his work and advocacy efforts. He passed away in 2024 at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, diplomacy, and humanitarianism. His contributions to the world will be remembered for years to come, as he was a true statesman and advocate for peace and democracy. The world mourns the loss of a great leader and humanitarian in Jimmy Carter.
