On November 9, a lookalike contest dedicated to Harry Styles was held in Soho Square in London, attracting hundreds of people resembling the former One Direction member. Organized by Katrina Mirpuri, no arrests were made at the event and the crowd was reminded to show respect and avoid unpleasant behavior. With 13 contestants participating, 22-year-old Oscar Journeaux won the best lookalike prize, while another contestant was awarded a prize for being the worst Harry Styles impersonator.
Mirpuri was inspired to organize the contest after hearing about similar events for Timothée Chalamet and Paul Mescal in New York City and Dublin. Feeling that London needed its own event, she decided to celebrate Harry Styles, who she described as an iconic London figure. Contrary to Styles, Chalamet attended his own lookalike contest in New York, where he interacted with fans dressed up as him. The event faced interference from law enforcement due to the lack of a permit.
Despite the police interruption, a contestant named Miles Mitchell won the $50 prize at the New York contest by dressing as Chalamet’s character in Wonka. The winner was amazed by the outcome and grateful for the opportunity to participate in the competition. Meanwhile, in Dublin, a lookalike contest for Paul Mescal was held on November 7, with Jack Wall O’Reilly winning the first-place prize of 20 pounds. O’Reilly expressed his pride in winning and described it as a rewarding experience.
The contests in different cities highlighted the growing popularity of celebrity lookalike events, where fans can emulate their favorite stars and win prizes for their efforts. Mirpuri and other organizers sought to bring a sense of fun and community to these events, allowing fans to come together and celebrate celebrities they admire. Despite legal challenges and logistical issues, the contestants and organizers alike were pleased with the overall experience and the chance to engage with fellow fans.
The trend of celebrity lookalike contests continues to gain momentum, with fans embracing the opportunity to showcase their resemblance to their idols and immerse themselves in a shared passion for popular figures like Harry Styles, Timothée Chalamet, and Paul Mescal. These events serve as a platform for fans to come together, showcase their creativity, and express their admiration for their favorite celebrities in a fun and engaging way. While challenges may arise in organizing such events, the positive energy and sense of community fostered by these contests offer a unique and entertaining experience for participants and spectators alike.
