Turkish Cuisine Week is being celebrated with the support of the Presidency and Emine Erdoğan between 21-27 May, both domestically and internationally. In line with this, a program was organized in the 4,000-year-old Harput District by the Elazığ Governorship, Elazığ Municipality, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism. Regional delicacies such as Harput meatballs, sırın, orcik, almond candy, and Ağın chickpeas were introduced at the stands set up during the event.

Elazığ Governor Ömer Toraman, Elazığ Deputy Mayor Nazif Bilginoğlu, and other officials visited the stands at the historical neighborhood. Attendees had the opportunity to taste local dishes and inspect handmade products. Governor Toraman, in a statement after the event, emphasized the importance of promoting and developing Turkish cuisine, which is one of Turkey’s significant riches. He highlighted the diversity and flavors of Turkish cuisine being showcased and promoted during Turkish Cuisine Week.

Elazığ Deputy Mayor Bilginoğlu also highlighted the significance of Elazığ’s gastronomy within Turkish cuisine. He mentioned that the promotion of Turkish cuisine across Turkey during 21-27 May is being done in Harput’s Sara Hatun Square to introduce Elazığ’s cuisine to people. Bilginoğlu emphasized the efforts of Elazığ Governorship, Elazığ Municipality, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with NGOs to promote Elazığ’s cuisine within the scope of Turkish cuisine.

The event in Harput was attended by Governor Toraman, Deputy Mayor Bilginoğlu, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Demirdağ, Senior Colonel Murat Evren from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, Police Chief Adnan Karayel, directors of public institutions, representatives of NGOs, and many citizens. The participants highlighted the rich culinary heritage of Elazığ, which has been passed down through generations. The event aimed to showcase the unique and diverse dishes of Elazığ within the broader context of Turkish cuisine.

The Turkish Cuisine Week celebrations in Elazığ not only aimed to promote the local cuisine but also to contribute to the wider recognition and appreciation of Turkish culinary traditions. The event in the historic Harput District provided a platform for locals and visitors to experience and savor the authentic flavors of Elazığ and Turkish cuisine.
