Lions executive reveals information on Cameron Sutton’s location during police investigation

The Detroit Lions have recently released defensive back Cameron Sutton following a domestic violence warrant issued for possible domestic battery by strangulation in Florida. The team’s president, Rod Wood, clarified that Sutton was actually in the team’s practice facility in Michigan at the time the warrant surfaced and urged him to turn himself in to police. The warrant was issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida after responding to a call about a domestic violence incident involving Sutton and an unidentified female. The spokesperson for the sheriff’s office mentioned that they were unable to locate Sutton in Tampa and suspected that he had fled.

Domestic battery by strangulation is considered a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. Sutton, who signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions last offseason, had previously spent six years with the Steelers. He played a key role in helping the Lions reach the NFC championship game for the first time in 32 years in January. Despite his contributions on the field, the team decided to part ways with him following the serious allegations against him.

The Lions learned about the warrant for Sutton at the same time as the public through social media. Wood stated that Sutton had unexpectedly shown up at the team’s practice facility to work out with the strength staff. However, Wood emphasized that the team took swift action and chose to release Sutton in light of the serious nature of the allegations against him. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has been unsuccessful in locating Sutton, with possible indications that he may have fled the area.

As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for Sutton. The allegations of domestic violence have had serious consequences for his career, as the Lions opted to release him from the team following the issuance of the warrant. The team’s decision to part ways with Sutton reflects their commitment to taking a stand against domestic violence and prioritizing the safety and well-being of their players and the community. The situation serves as a reminder of the responsibility that professional athletes have in upholding standards of conduct both on and off the field.
