Leonel Moreno, a migrant influencer, is under investigation for gun charges after encouraging border crossers to squat in US homes

Leonel Moreno, a self-proclaimed “migrant influencer,” is facing potential federal firearms charges after his mocking of America on social media and encouraging migrants to squat in the homes of US citizens. Internal federal documents reveal that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) have been in contact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding Moreno and are considering charges against him. While the exact charges are unknown, sources suggest they may be related to a section of the gun control act prohibiting those on parole from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Moreno illegally crossed into the US in 2022 but was allowed to stay in the country under a Biden administration-approved parole scheme. He was eventually arrested in Ohio for failing to appear for required check-ins and posting controversial content on social media. John Fabbricatore, a former ICE director, mentions that potential additional charges could escalate the case and allow authorities to keep Moreno in custody for a longer period. If the ATF pursues charges, Moreno would be mandated to appear before a judge and transferred to the custody of the US Marshals.

Moreno remains in custody at Geauga County Jail, held on behalf of ICE. Charges under the Gun Control Act section 922(g) have serious legal consequences, which could result in a conviction. Fabbricatore underscores that possessing a firearm unlawfully as an illegal alien can lead to criminal charges. Previous social media posts by Moreno showed him handling firearms in a store and making controversial statements about obtaining guns. Authorities have not disclosed any information about what was seized from the hotel where Moreno was staying when he was arrested.

Former ATF special agent Peter Forcelli believes the agency may pursue charges against Moreno because he is an illegal alien in possession of a firearm that crossed state lines. Forcelli expressed concern over Moreno advocating entering people’s homes and taking them over. While the ATF did not confirm or deny any ongoing investigations, Moreno’s situation raises serious legal and immigration concerns about his actions. ICE has stated that Moreno is an unlawfully present citizen of Venezuela who illegally entered the country and failed to report to enforcement operations as required.

Internal ICE records revealed that the agency was aware of Moreno’s social media presence and provocative content encouraging illegal immigration. Moreno’s wife, who spoke tearfully to The Post following his arrest, expressed concern over not being able to see her husband and not knowing where he was taken. The situation highlights the complex legal and immigration issues surrounding Moreno’s case and the challenges that stem from his actions and statements on social media. Further developments will determine the outcome of the potential federal firearms charges against Moreno and his immigration status in the US.
