Anti-war demonstrators in Melbourne have continued to protest at a military expo, despite a violent clash where protesters threw various objects at police, resulting in arrests and injuries to officers. The protesters gathered to disrupt the Land Forces conference, a defence industry exhibition, with an estimated 1500 people in attendance. Chief Commissioner Shane Patton criticized the protesters, calling them hypocrites for their violent conduct during what was supposed to be an anti-war demonstration.

The clashes at the rally involved protesters throwing horse manure, rocks, eggs, beer bottles, tomatoes, canned food, and a mild acid at police officers. This led to 42 arrests, with 22 people being charged and bailed on Wednesday. Additionally, 27 police officers required medical attention due to the violent behavior of the protesters. The protesters’ actions, which included violence and aggression, went against the peaceful nature of their cause, raising concerns about the effectiveness of their message and tactics.

The ongoing demonstrations suggest a strong commitment from the protesters to make their voices heard and challenge the militarization and proliferation of weapons through their activism.

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton condemned the behavior of the protesters, describing their conduct as “absolutely appalling.” He criticized the protesters for being hypocritical in advocating against violence while engaging in violent actions themselves. The clashes between protesters and police not only resulted in injuries and arrests but also raised questions about the protesters’ methods and the impact of their actions on their cause. The confrontation highlighted the tensions and challenges surrounding anti-war activism in a complex and polarized political landscape.
