Kyle Larson Sets Sights on 2025 Indy 500 After Securing Brickyard 400 Trophy

Following his Brickyard 400 victory, Kyle Larson expressed his desire to take part in an IndyCar and test his luck at “kissing the bricks” of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the Indy 500. The previous year, his opportunity to participate in the Indy 500 was derailed due to heavy rain and ensuing delays, a disappointment that also jeopardized his position in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff. As NASCAR rules require, all Cup drivers must start every race or appeal for a waiver, which Larson was granted, permitting him to stay in the running for the Cup title in spite of his delayed start at the Coca-Cola 600.

Remaining optimistic, Larson confirmed that his two-year agreement with Hendrick and Arrow McLaren had yet to be approved for a second year, but that negotiations were ongoing. Rick Hendrick, team owner, stated he hasn’t endorsed Larson’s participation in the 2025 Indy 500 yet. According to Larson, deliberations are currently focused on determining what’s most important to all parties involved.

Larson’s stance remains very much enthusiastic: “It sounds good. I would obviously love to do it. I think everybody knows I would love to do it because I didn’t get to do it this year.” He expressed that he didn’t feel he was able to fully experience the double the previous year, a sentiment that fuels his eagerness to return.

In his IndyCar debut, Larson finished 18th in Indy 500 this year. He is hopeful that his past experience, optimized for improvement, can be used to his advantage in the upcoming race. He expressed hope for an announcement about his participation in upcoming races could be made soon.

His recent success in winning the Brickyard 400 could be indicative of his potential for a similar feat, sparking excitement and anticipation for a prospective Indy 500 win. He mused on his ambition to add to his achievements in Indianapolis, saying: “Hopefully, someday I can get a chance to win the 500… Now today in the 400. I guess there’s one more to check off, which is the Indy 500, which would be pretty special.”
