Kyiv warns of possible new Russian offensive in May or June in Ukraine war

Ukraine is facing the threat of a major Russian offensive, expected to occur at the end of May or in June, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The situation on the battlefield has been stabilized compared to earlier months, with Ukrainian military officials warning that Moscow may be preparing for a new major attack, mustering a force of 100,000 troops. Despite some progress made by Russian forces in February, the situation in the east has been stabilized, and Kyiv is preparing for potential future attacks.

Reports about Russia’s preparations for an offensive against Kharkiv were dismissed by Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, stating that Moscow currently does not have the resources for such an operation. The ongoing fear propaganda campaign by Russia, including threats of capturing Kharkiv, is seen as part of a psychological operation to instill fear and uncertainty. Despite the near-daily attacks on Kharkiv since the start of the invasion, President Zelensky has emphasized that the city is not yet safe for residents to return.

The devastating impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine has left almost 1,800 Ukrainian children as orphans, with nearly 600 children killed and over 1,200 injured. Mass air strikes and deportations of children have created a humanitarian crisis, with over 19,500 children confirmed as abducted by Russia since the invasion began. Additionally, one in seven schools in Ukraine has been destroyed or damaged, forcing 1.6 million schoolchildren out of education. The mental health of Ukrainian children is also at risk, with many experiencing depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Security measures in Kyiv are being increased following missile strikes on the city and the threat of infiltration by Russian saboteurs. Russia’s use of hypersonic cruise missiles in recent attacks has prompted the tightening of security measures, with a focus on monitoring social media for disinformation and provocations. Authorities are reviewing the circumstances of holding public events attended by large numbers of people, and residents are urged to remain calm and follow safety rules. Germany has delivered tank ammunition, shells, drones, and armored vehicles to Ukraine as part of ongoing defense aid.

Germany has emerged as one of Ukraine’s leading military donors, providing significant support including armored vehicles, ammunition, and drones. The latest supply includes a range of military equipment aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Germany has also committed to future military supplies, including Patriot missiles and infantry fighting vehicles. The German government’s aid package for Ukraine is worth 500 million euros, demonstrating their commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to pose a serious threat to the region, with the need for international support and solidarity becoming increasingly urgent.
