Kremlin spokesperson criticizes French president and UK foreign secretary for calling war in Ukraine ‘dangerous’

Recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron regarding the war in Ukraine have been labeled as “dangerous” by the Russian Kremlin. Macron mentioned the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, while Cameron stated that Ukraine could use British long-range weapons to strike targets inside Russia. These comments were criticized by the Kremlin as escalating tensions around the conflict and threatening European security.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 intensified tensions between the Kremlin and NATO countries, as the alliance has provided military support to Kyiv. Russia has sought assistance from China, Iran, and North Korea, while increasing pressure on Ukrainian forces. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed that Russian troops had captured over 200 square miles of territory from Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the year, leading to concerns of a major offensive.

Ukrainian officials have acknowledged the overwhelming advantage of Russian forces in terms of troops, weapons, and ammunition. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba urged Cameron to accelerate the delivery of promised military aid, including armored vehicles, ammunition, and missiles. Major-General Vadym Skibitsky of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency warned of Russia’s plans for a major offensive this summer and the dire need for additional weapons and support.

The delay in Western military aid to Ukraine, due to political disagreements in the United States and manufacturing capacity issues in Europe, has allowed the Russian army to make advances along the front line in eastern Ukraine. The urgent goal is to deploy new military aid, especially from the U.S., to prevent further Russian aggression and protect strategic areas like the city of Chasiv Yar. Russian forces are heavily targeting the city with artillery, drones, and missiles, as they did to force Ukrainian troops out of Avdiivka in February.

The Kremlin has criticized Macron and Cameron’s statements as contributing to the escalation of tensions in Ukraine and the broader European security landscape. The possibility of direct French engagement in the conflict and Ukraine’s use of British weapons against Russia has raised concerns about a potential European security crisis. As Russia continues to put pressure on Ukrainian forces and prepare for a major offensive, the need for increased military support from Western allies becomes increasingly urgent.

The situation in Ukraine remains dire, with Russian forces gaining ground and intensifying their attacks on key cities like Chasiv Yar. The race against the clock to deploy essential military aid to Ukraine highlights the critical need for international assistance to counter Russia’s aggression and protect Ukrainian territory. As the conflict continues to escalate, the role of NATO allies and the United States in providing support to Ukraine will be crucial in determining the outcome of the war in the region.
