Kremlin closely monitoring U.S. Election following Biden’s departure, but primarily focused on Ukraine conflict

The Kremlin announced that it will continue to monitor the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, even after President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. However, the main focus for Moscow remains the ongoing war against Ukraine, referred to as a “special military operation” by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Despite Biden endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic Party nominee, Russia continues its strong support for Ukraine in light of the invasion that began in February 2022.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused U.S. media and political leaders of colluding to conceal the true state of Biden’s mental health following his withdrawal from the presidential race. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for an investigation into the alleged collusion between American media and political circles, as well as the manipulation and propaganda spread by these entities. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also commented on Biden’s exit from the race, expressing that it is “over for Biden” while wishing him health and stating that the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine will be achieved.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. presidential election with Biden’s withdrawal, the Kremlin remains focused on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as its top priority. While Peskov acknowledged that the election is still four months away and anything can happen in that time, the current situation in Ukraine takes precedence for Russia. The Biden-Harris administration has been a key supporter of Ukraine since the invasion began and Russia continues to monitor the situation closely.

The tensions between Russia and the U.S. have been heightened by the accusations made by Russia’s Foreign Ministry regarding the coverage of Biden’s mental health and alleged collusion between American media and political figures. Zakharova’s call for an investigation into these matters underscores the distrust and suspicion between the two countries. Medvedev’s comments further reflect the divisive nature of the situation, with Russia expressing confidence in achieving its goals in Ukraine despite the political developments in the U.S.

The focus on the U.S. presidential election by the Kremlin comes amidst escalating conflict in Ukraine and strained relations with the U.S. The Biden-Harris administration’s support for Ukraine has been a significant factor in the ongoing tensions between Russia and the U.S. The accusations made by Russia’s Foreign Ministry regarding collusion and propaganda add another layer of complexity to the already fraught relationship between the two countries. Despite the political uncertainty in the U.S., the situation in Ukraine remains the primary concern for Moscow.

The comments from Russian officials regarding the U.S. presidential election and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine highlight the intricacies of the relationship between Russia and the U.S. The differing priorities between Moscow and Washington, particularly regarding Ukraine, underscore the challenges faced in finding common ground and resolving the conflict. The accusations of collusion and propaganda further fuel the distrust and animosity between the two countries, creating additional obstacles to potential diplomatic solutions. As the situation continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the dynamics between Russia and the U.S. will impact the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and broader international relations.
