Koch Network Group Aims to Mobilize Voters at Start of Crucial Senate Race

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) CEO Emily Seidel recently approached Andrew McGhee, who expressed deep unrest in the electorate and disappointment with both presidential candidates. Despite this, AFP is focused on Senate and House races, with plans to knock on more than 1 million doors in Pennsylvania ahead of the general election. Some voters, like McGhee, remain undecided due to frustrations with the political environment and a desire for solutions. Seidel emphasized the importance of voters understanding the impact of Senate and House races and the role of elected officials in making laws.

AFP had initially planned to endorse Nikki Haley in the presidential race, but after her loss to Donald Trump in South Carolina, they shifted their focus to Senate and House races, believing they have a better chance of success in these contests. In Pennsylvania, AFP is campaigning for Republican Senate candidate Dave McCormick, offering a “golden opportunity” to connect with voters who may not be familiar with down-ballot races. They are targeting undecided voters who are open to policy discussions, believing they have the potential to be swayed and engaged in the political process.

AFP’s efforts are aimed at reaching voters who may be disenchanted with the presidential candidates and the current political climate. The organization sees connecting with voters on important issues as essential to getting them engaged in the upcoming election. With McCormick not facing a competitive primary, AFP is already working towards November, identifying three types of voters – saints, sinners, and savables – with a focus on the latter group who are open to policy discussions. Seidel emphasized the importance of grassroots efforts and connecting with voters throughout the year.

In response, a spokesperson for Senator Bob Casey’s campaign highlighted his support from working people in Pennsylvania, contrasting it with McCormick’s backing from the Koch brothers and Wall Street billionaires. Despite this, AFP remains committed to its efforts to engage voters and highlight the significance of Senate and House races in shaping policy and making a difference in the political landscape. They plan to continue their door-knocking efforts in Pennsylvania and other key states to reach voters, drive engagement, and advocate for conservative candidates in the upcoming election.
