The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie, represented King Charles at a Changing of the Guard ceremony to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale. The agreement was a cornerstone of lasting peace between France and the UK before World War One. French troops joined British and Commonwealth soldiers at Buckingham Palace for the ceremony. Prince Edward and Sophie inspected the troops alongside French Ambassador to the UK, Helene Duchene, and military leaders from both countries.

The ceremony showcased unity, with French troops and Guardsmen from the Scots Guards sharing the forecourt of the palace. The band of the Grenadier Guards played national anthems and Anglo-French music. A similar ceremony took place at the Elysée Palace in Paris, where British personnel participated in the guard ceremony. The Entente Cordiale marked a significant shift in British foreign policy, and King Charles’ great great grandfather Edward VII played a crucial role in its formation.

King Charles has reduced his public duties due to undergoing cancer treatment, but he recently attended an Easter Sunday service at Windsor Castle. Reports suggest that he is feeling optimistic about his health and is looking forward to a trip to Australia later this year. The King is expected to travel to Birkhall soon and embark on a Commonwealth visit. The public appearance and positive outlook indicate that King Charles is eager to resume his official duties and international engagements.

The historic ceremony at Buckingham Palace highlighted the importance of the Entente Cordiale in maintaining peace and cooperation between the UK and France. The participation of French troops in a traditionally Commonwealth-centric event symbolized the strong bond between the two countries. King Charles’ lineage and diplomatic legacy were also honored during the ceremony, emphasizing the enduring impact of his ancestors’ contributions to international relations.

Despite facing health challenges, King Charles remains committed to fulfilling his duties as the monarch. His recent public appearances and plans for future engagements demonstrate his determination to serve his country and participate in important events. The support of his family, including Prince Edward and Sophie, in representing him at official ceremonies reflects a sense of unity and solidarity within the royal household during challenging times.

As King Charles prepares for upcoming trips and official engagements, his commitment to fulfilling his role as a monarch and representing the UK on the global stage remains unwavering. The support from his family and the positive outlook on his health indicate that he is determined to continue his service to the country and the Commonwealth. The historic ceremony commemorating the Entente Cordiale served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of diplomatic relations between the UK and France and the importance of maintaining peace and cooperation in the international community.
