Singer Kehlani was granted a temporary restraining order against their ex, Javaughn Young-White, after accusing him of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse. The singer filed for the restraining order in the Superior Court of Los Angeles to protect themselves and their 5-year-old daughter from Young-White’s erratic behavior, which included smashing through locked doors in a fit of anger.
Kehlani detailed years of abuse by Young-White in their court filing and described an incident in mid-June where he allegedly became enraged and verbally assaulted them. They accused him of lacking personal hygiene, using drugs excessively, and disappearing for months at a time. Additionally, Kehlani claimed that when their daughter was in his care, he would return her dirty and smelling of marijuana.
In their petition for the restraining order, Kehlani expressed concern about Young-White’s emotional instability and rage, which they believed to be upsetting to their child. Despite allowing him to stay on their property in the past due to promises of being a better parent, Kehlani no longer believes he can change and wants to protect themselves and their daughter from further abuse.
The restraining order expires at a court hearing scheduled for September 3rd. Kehlani’s representative did not respond to requests for comment, while Young-White responded to the abuse allegations by sharing alleged text messages from Kehlani suggesting they wanted him to call them. He denied the abuse claims and accused Kehlani of framing their own abuse.
Young-White had filed for full custody of their daughter and accused Kehlani of being in a “cult” that was controlling their actions and behaviors, including how they raised their child. Kehlani refuted these claims on social media, denying that they put their child in harm’s way and asserting that the allegations were hurtful, inaccurate, and untrue.
The relationship between Kehlani and Young-White lasted from 2018 to 2019, resulting in the birth of their daughter in 2019. Following a history of abuse and turmoil, Kehlani sought legal protection for themselves and their child through the restraining order against Young-White. The situation between the two continues to unfold as they navigate the legal proceedings and address the allegations made by both parties.
