Meanwhile, the rejected bill against gender-affirming care for minors aimed to limit surgery, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers for minors to therapy only. Supporters believe this ban will protect children from potentially dangerous and permanent treatments.
Kelly’s veto was criticized by Republican lawmakers, with Senate President Ty Masterson calling her actions radical. They argue that the ban on gender-affirming care will protect children from experimental treatments, but major health care groups in the U.S. disagree.
