Jonathan Majors receives counseling sentence after assaulting ex-girlfriend, avoids jail

Actor Jonathan Majors has avoided jail time but has been ordered to complete a year-long counseling program after assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The 34-year-old star of films like “Creed III” faced up to a year behind bars after being convicted of misdemeanor assault in December. Judge Michael Gaffey sentenced Majors to conditional discharge, requiring him to complete a 52-week batterer’s intervention program in Los Angeles and continue with mental health therapy. He also has a no-contact order with Jabbari and could face jail time if he violates the terms.

Majors, accompanied by his girlfriend Meagan Good, declined to address the court and maintained his innocence. His lawyer Priya Chaudhry stated that he will abide by the judge’s sentence but plans to appeal, emphasizing that he has lost his career and faced significant challenges. Jabbari, in tears, told the court that Majors refuses to acknowledge his guilt and remains a danger to others, expressing concern that he will harm other women in the future. The case has had a significant impact on Majors’ career, leading to his dismissal from Marvel Studios and a potential reevaluation of his role as Kang the Conqueror.

The assault conviction stemmed from an incident in March where Jabbari accused Majors of attacking her in a car, resulting in injuries to her head, arm, and finger. Majors claimed Jabbari was the aggressor, accusing her of a jealous rage. Despite hopes that the criminal trial would vindicate him, Majors faces additional legal challenges, including a civil suit filed by Jabbari accusing him of assault, battery, defamation, and emotional distress. His lawyers are preparing to file counterclaims against Jabbari while Majors aims to redirect his focus to his family and art.

Majors, known for roles in “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and “Lovecraft Country,” had his career derailed by the assault case. His departure from Marvel Studios has raised questions about the future of his role as Kang the Conqueror, and whether the studio will recast the character or take a new direction. The setback for Majors adds to recent challenges facing the superhero factory, which has enjoyed immense success but now faces the task of adapting to changes in the industry and public perception. Majors’ legal proceedings and career trajectory continue to be closely watched in the entertainment industry and by fans.
