Joey King, 24, is currently promoting her new drama miniseries on Hulu, We Were The Lucky Ones, which focuses on the Holocaust from the perspective of a Polish Jewish family. During an appearance on KTLA 5 Morning News, she discussed her star power and the influence it has on getting projects off the ground. King expressed her gratitude for being in a position to guide her career path, noting that she is still enamored with her work despite the power she holds. She shared that having more control over her career is both empowering and daunting, as it comes with added pressure.

Having achieved significant success with The Kissing Booth film franchise, King was asked if her career choices have become more selective now that she has more star power in the industry. She revealed that while she still finds joy in her work, the ability to be pickier with her projects can be intimidating. The actress acknowledged that her breakthrough in the industry came after the success of The Kissing Booth, but noted that she had been acting professionally since the age of four. King feels fortunate to have had a rewarding career leading up to her role in The Kissing Booth, which significantly impacted her career trajectory.

We Were The Lucky Ones is based on the true story of the Kurc family and is adapted from the 2017 book by Georgia Hunter. The miniseries follows the Kurc family’s journey to reunite over eight years during World War II. King plays the role of Halina Kurc, the youngest sibling in the family, who works as a lab assistant for her brother-in-law. The series also features performances from actors such as Logan Lerman, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and Amit Rahav, among others. King’s involvement in the project underscores her ability to greenlight productions and have a greater say in her career choices.

We Were The Lucky Ones first premiered on Hulu on March 28, with the first six episodes currently available for streaming. The series finale is scheduled to drop on May 2, allowing audiences to follow the Kurc family’s harrowing journey during World War II. King’s acting career began at the age of four, with her first television role in Malcolm In The Middle and debut film role in Horton Hears a Who! Her diverse Hollywood resume includes appearances in various films and television series, such as The Conjuring, The Act, and Hamster & Gretel. King’s star power has significantly increased following her success in The Kissing Booth franchise.

Reflecting on her career trajectory, King emphasized that The Kissing Booth franchise played a pivotal role in enhancing her visibility in the industry. Despite the success of the teen romantic comedy series, she remains grounded in her passion for acting, which she has nurtured since childhood. King expressed gratitude for the opportunities that have come her way and the ability to have more control over her career decisions. Her involvement in We Were The Lucky Ones showcases her ability to take on diverse and challenging roles, making her a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. With a promising career ahead, King continues to captivate audiences with her talent and dedication to her craft.
