Israel Launches Strikes on 100 Hezbollah Targets Following ‘Doomsday’ Warning

As tensions rise between Israel and Lebanon, the Lebanese Ambassador to the UK, Rami Mortada, cautioned against any ground incursion that could lead to a larger regional conflict. Mortada warned that Lebanon’s armed forces would not remain passive if Israel launched a major offensive, citing Hezbollah as a powerful fighting force capable of retaliation. Israel has already launched airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon following threats from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

On Tuesday, Israel warned U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin of a pending operation in Lebanon without providing specific details. That same day, thousands of Hezbollah militants’ pagers exploded in an attack believed to be attributed to Israel, resulting in injuries and fatalities. The U.S. received multiple warnings from Israel regarding military operations in Lebanon, with Defense Secretary Austin reaffirming U.S. support for Israel and advocating for de-escalation during conversations with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

The scale of operations between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated, with the U.S. surprised by the intensity of the strikes that resulted in civilian casualties. Despite the violence, the U.S. has not altered its military presence in the region and remains committed to supporting Israel while urging for a ceasefire to protect civilians on both sides of the border. Concerns over a potential U.S. evacuation from Lebanon have been raised, but no formal requests have been made. The State Department has advised Americans in Lebanon to maintain a low profile.

Amid the escalating conflict, the U.S. Navy ships with Marines are stationed in the Mediterranean, ready to assist if needed. The National Security Council clarified that while evacuation plans are in place for global hotspots, immediate action is not anticipated. Diplomatic efforts are being made to reduce tensions in the region and prioritize the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire between Israel and Hezbollah. The situation remains volatile, with the risk of a regional war looming as both sides continue to engage in airstrikes and threats.
