Israel disputes Hamas’ civilian death toll in Gaza, accuses them of spreading false information

Israel has released its estimated civilian death toll in Gaza for the first time, stating that 16,000 civilians have been killed in the war that began on October 7. This number contrasts with the approximately 35,000 civilian deaths claimed by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas’ Ministry of Health. Avi Hyman, an Israeli government spokesperson, criticized the United Nations for endorsing Hamas’ numbers, calling them fake and fabricated. He claimed that Israel has the lowest civilian to combatant casualty ratio in history and has killed over 14,000 terrorists during the conflict.

Hyman emphasized that Israel is a democratic country that follows the laws of armed conflict, and urged others to take their figures as genuine estimates. He blamed Hamas for using civilians as human shields, leading to civilian casualties, and expressed solidarity with the Israeli soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the conflict. The Israeli Defense Forces have suffered 620 losses during the war, according to Hyman. These new estimates come after the United Nations revised its data on the number of women and children killed in the conflict. However, the World Health Organization has defended the numbers provided by the Gaza Ministry of Health led by Hamas.

Turkey’s President Erdogan has defended Hamas, claiming that over 1,000 members of the organization are being treated in his country’s hospitals. This stance has further exacerbated tensions between Israel and Turkey, as Erdogan’s support for Hamas goes against Israel’s perspective on the conflict. The White House has also faced challenges in navigating its diplomatic stance on Israel, with contradictory messaging causing confusion. Despite the differing narratives surrounding the conflict, the focus remains on the tragic loss of civilian lives in Gaza.

The Israeli government’s release of civilian death toll estimates sheds light on the scale of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as a result of the conflict. The sheer number of civilian casualties underscores the devastating impact of the war on the population, with thousands of lives lost in the course of the conflict. The figures presented by Israel challenge the narrative put forth by Hamas and highlight the complexities of urban warfare in the region.

As the conflict continues, the need for a resolution that prioritizes the protection of civilians and adherence to international laws of armed conflict becomes increasingly urgent. The global community is called upon to address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a ceasefire that ensures the safety and well-being of all civilians in the region. The toll of the conflict on both Israeli and Palestinian civilians underscores the importance of finding a peaceful resolution to the longstanding conflict and preventing further loss of life. Israel’s release of civilian death toll estimates represents a step towards transparency and accountability in the midst of the ongoing conflict.
