Israel advises caution for fans attending events following Amsterdam attacks; upcoming soccer match against France scheduled for Thursday

Israel has warned its citizens against attending sporting and cultural events involving Israelis due to recent attacks on supporters of the country’s soccer team in Amsterdam. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated that pro-Palestinian groups abroad intend to harm Israelis in cities such as France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Belgium. Specifically, Israel is set to play against France in a UEFA Nations League match, prompting concerns of potential violence. The French government has announced heightened security measures for the match, with 4,000 officers and 1,600 stadium staff ensuring security both in and around the stadium.

French police chief Laurent Nuñez acknowledged the high-risk nature of the upcoming match and emphasized the anti-terrorist security measures that will be put in place. The French organizers have been in contact with Israeli authorities to coordinate security efforts. These precautions stem from a recent incident in Amsterdam where Israeli supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv FC were targeted and attacked during a match against Ajax. The Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations condemned the violence as a modern-day pogrom against Jews and Israelis. In response to the escalating situation, the Israeli government has dispatched rescue teams for Jews in danger.

Representative Ritchie Torres of New York condemned the violence in Amsterdam as a result of the demonization of Israel, which has led to a surge of antisemitic sentiments worldwide. Torres described the attacks as a 21st-century pogrom unfolding against Jewish individuals supporting the Tel Aviv Football Club. The recent incident follows a terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel 13 months ago, highlighting rising tensions in the region. Despite the violence, there is no discussion of canceling the France-Israel match, with French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau emphasizing the importance of not giving in to fear and promoting unity through sports.

The Israeli Embassy to the U.S. posted a video of the violent attacks against Israeli supporters in Amsterdam, drawing attention to the alarming rise in antisemitic behavior. The attacks have been attributed to groups advocating for the global spread of the intifada, prompting calls for immediate action from authorities. The situation has sparked concerns about the safety of Israelis and Jewish people attending events in various countries, with the Israeli government taking steps to protect its citizens. Amid growing tensions and threats of violence, efforts are being made to ensure the security of individuals attending sports and cultural events involving Israelis.

The wave of violence targeting Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam has raised alarm bells in Israel and abroad, with government officials and lawmakers condemning the attacks as acts of antisemitism. The incidents in Amsterdam have underscored the need for increased security measures and vigilance to prevent further violence against Israelis and Jewish individuals. The upcoming France-Israel match has prompted heightened security preparations, with the French authorities working closely with Israeli counterparts to ensure the safety of all attendees. The situation remains tense, with concerns about potential threats lingering as efforts are made to address the root causes of the violence and promote peace and unity in the region.
