Is Michigan able to surpass Georgia’s record for most players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Jim Harbaugh predicted last summer that Michigan would set a record for most players selected from one school in one NFL Draft year, and as the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, it seems like that record may indeed be within reach for the Wolverines. With 18 players invited to the combine, including quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who is predicted to be a top-10 pick, Michigan has a strong showing of potential draftees. Harbaugh himself has moved on to become the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, but it’s unlikely that the team will draft McCarthy due to their current quarterback situation.

Roman Wilson, a Michigan receiver, has suggested that the Chargers could become like “Ann Arbor South” as they potentially draft many Michigan players. The team will need 16 players drafted to break the record set by Georgia in 2022, which was 15 players. While McCarthy is a likely Round 1 pick, others from Michigan’s team are expected to be Day 2 picks, such as defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, wide receiver Roman Wilson, cornerback Mike Sainristil, linebacker Junior Colson, and running back Blake Corum. Corum, who is predicted to be a Day 2 pick, is favored by Harbaugh’s Chargers.

For possible Day 3 picks from Michigan, names like guard Zak Zinter, tight end A.J. Barner, wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, guard Trevor Keegan, edge rushers Braiden McGregor and Jaylen Harrell, and linebacker Michael Barrett have been mentioned. They will all need to be drafted to help Michigan break Georgia’s record of 15 players in the 2022 NFL Draft. It’s predicted to come down to the wire in the later rounds of the draft for Michigan to surpass the record set by Georgia, as all 15 Bulldogs players were drafted in the first six rounds that year.

While Michigan is poised to have a strong showing in the 2024 NFL Draft with a number of potential draft picks, it will ultimately come down to the number of players who are selected on Day 3. With 18 players invited to the combine, the Wolverines have a chance to break the current record held by Georgia for the most players selected from one school in one NFL Draft year. Key players like J.J. McCarthy, Kris Jenkins, Roman Wilson, and others are expected to be selected in the earlier rounds, but the team will need a strong showing in the later rounds to achieve their goal.

As the draft approaches, the Michigan Wolverines have a number of players who are expected to be drafted, including top prospects like J.J. McCarthy and Roman Wilson. With Harbaugh now coaching the Los Angeles Chargers, there is speculation that the team may draft multiple Michigan players. To break the current record set by Georgia, Michigan will need a strong showing in all rounds of the draft, including Day 3 picks. The fate of the Wolverines in the 2024 NFL Draft remains to be seen, but they have a strong chance to make history with a record-breaking number of players selected.
