Investigation teams are looking into the findings regarding the fire that broke out in a nightclub on the -1st and -2nd floors of a 16-story building on Gönenoğlu Street in Gayrettepe Yıldız Posta Avenue.
The building was evacuated after cutting off electricity and natural gas for the investigation. Residents were allowed to return to their apartments during the day to collect some of their belongings. The municipal cleaning crews also disposed of items that were damaged and rendered unusable due to the fire.
Mehmet Enver Horozoğlu, who worked on the architectural drawings of the building, spoke to the press members waiting in front of the building. He mentioned that he worked as a senior engineer and architect alongside the architect of the building, Zeki Öztekin. He remembered drawing the cinema section in 1972 which included a balcony with a cinema machine room on it. There was a passage on the upper floor with a descent from it, but there was an exit as well. It was not just an entrance, there was an exit too. Without an entrance and exit, it would not have been approved by the municipality.
Horozoğlu emphasized that the building had a thorough design with multiple access points which included not just an entrance but also an exit. This design was essential in ensuring the safety of the building’s occupants and complying with the regulations set by the municipality.
