Bundesinnenministerin Nancy Faeser (SPD) announced that there will be controls at all German borders during the upcoming European Football Championship. The temporary controls are being implemented to prevent potential violent individuals from entering the country. Faeser emphasized that the security of the tournament is of utmost importance and that these measures are necessary to protect the international event.

The Football European Championship will take place in Germany from mid-June to mid-July, and Faeser announced that temporary border controls will be in place during this time. The goal of these measures is to prevent violent individuals from entering the country and to ensure the safety of the event. These controls are a standard practice for large-scale events, and Faeser had previously announced an expansion of border controls in February.

Faeser highlighted that the security of the Football European Championship is a top priority for her. She emphasized that the focus is on protecting against Islamist and other extremists, as well as hooligans and other violent individuals. Additionally, cybersecurity measures are being implemented to safeguard against cyberattacks. The security forces are being strengthened for the tournament, and preparations are going well thanks to the excellent cooperation with the states.

In light of a recent attack on a concert hall near Moscow that resulted in at least 137 deaths, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior stated that there will be increased security measures, particularly against Islamist threats, during the Football European Championship. Faeser stated that such attacks prompt authorities to intensify security measures and incorporate them into the safety planning for the event. The ongoing threat of terrorism is being taken seriously, and measures are being implemented to address these risks.

Faeser emphasized the importance of maintaining security during the Football European Championship, particularly in light of current threats and challenges. The cooperation between security forces and state authorities is key in ensuring the safety of the event. The temporary border controls are part of a comprehensive security plan aimed at preventing violence and protecting all those involved in the tournament. Faeser’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the European Football Championship in Germany.
