Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality established the Natural Life Park in Burç Forest in 2001 on an area of approximately 1 million square meters, which houses a variety of wildlife species including predators such as kangaroos, red deer, monkeys, and lions. As the largest in Turkey, second in Europe, and fourth in the world in size, the Natural Life Park is home to 380 species of animals, with 1100 offspring born in just 10 months.
Celal Özsöyler, the head of the Natural Life Conservation Department of the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the number of offspring increases every year. Since January, 1100 births have occurred in various animal species such as kangaroos, red deer, white deer, wild sheep, and bison. Özsöyler noted that last year there were fewer births, but as the number of offspring increases each year, the number of births also increases accordingly.
Özsöyler explained that the increase in birth rates is proportional to the animals’ balanced nutrition and their happiness in their environment, indicating that this year’s increase reflects the animals’ happiness. It is expected that the number of animals will exceed 8,000 by the end of the year. Last year, there were 910 births, but this year they have already surpassed that number in just 10 months. The animals in the park are constantly monitored in terms of their diet, water intake, vitamins, and vaccinations. They are cared for in shelters suitable for their natural habitat, which makes them feel happy and leads to an increase in birth rates.
According to Özsöyler, the staff working at the park have at least 19-20 years of experience, creating a strong bond of trust between the animals and the personnel. This trust ensures the animals’ well-being and contributes to the increase in birth rates. The park staff has a deep connection with the animals, knowing that they will not harm them, which leads to the animals feeling comfortable and ultimately results in higher birth rates. The sight of visitors showing interest in the offspring also brings happiness to the staff.
Özsöyler expressed his happiness at the interest shown by visitors towards the offspring, stating that the number of animals is expected to exceed 8,000 by the end of the year. The success in breeding and caring for the animals in the Natural Life Park reflects the dedication and hard work of the staff, ensuring the well-being and happiness of the diverse wildlife species housed within the park. The continuous monitoring and care provided to the animals contribute to the high birth rates and overall success of the conservation efforts at the Natural Life Park in Gaziantep.
