According to a statement from the Governorship, in coordination with the Cizre and İdil Republic Public Prosecutor’s Offices, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch teams carried out an operation targeting organized crime groups engaged in illegal arms production and smuggling in the city.
During the operation, a total of 22 unlicensed hunting rifles, 136 hunting rifle ammunition, 1 anti-aircraft shell, 2 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 1 infantry rifle, 6 magazines, 40 Kalashnikov rifle ammunition, 1 machine pistol, 2 pistols, 4 blank pistols, 4,200 blank pistol ammunition, 1,016 pistol magazines, 218 pistol grips, 16 pistol springs, 30 grip pins, and 70 materials used in making firearms were seized from the illegal arms workshop.
The teams detained 7 suspects, including the leader of the criminal organization. The suspects are currently undergoing procedures at the gendarmerie.
