ICE arrests Brazilian illegal immigrant accused of attempted murder in Massachusetts

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently arrested a Brazilian national, Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa, who was in the country illegally and charged with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, in Massachusetts. Ribeiro-Rosa was arrested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston in Worcester District Court on August 12. These charges stemmed from an incident in which the Worcester Police Department arrested him on July 16 for attempted murder, stalking, intimidation, kidnapping, and vandalizing property. ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons emphasized that noncitizen criminals will not be allowed to repeatedly harm communities in Massachusetts.

Ribeiro-Rosa initially entered the U.S. unlawfully near Nogales, Arizona, in September 2021. He was arrested by Border Patrol officials and served with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. However, he was later released and resurfaced in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he was arrested last month by the Worcester Police on charges that included attempted murder and stalking. Despite ERO filing an immigration detainer against Ribeiro-Rosa with the Worcester Police, he was released from Worcester House of Corrections on July 23 after posting $2,500 bail. He was arrested again on August 8 by Worcester Police for failing to appear in court, leading to ERO Boston filing another detainer against him. Ultimately, deportation officers took him into custody on August 12 in Worcester District Court.

Following his arrest, the court surrendered custody of Ribeiro-Rosa to ERO Boston due to an active immigration detainer, and he remains in their custody. ICE emphasized that ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England. This case serves as an example of the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with individuals who are in the country illegally and engage in criminal activities. The incident highlights the importance of cooperation between federal and local authorities in enforcing immigration laws and ensuring the safety of communities in the United States.

This case also underscores the potential risks posed by individuals who enter the country illegally and commit serious crimes. Ribeiro-Rosa’s illegal entry into the U.S. ultimately led to his involvement in multiple criminal activities in Massachusetts, including attempted murder and stalking. Despite being initially released after his arrest in Arizona, he was able to evade authorities and engage in further criminal behavior. This raises questions about the effectiveness of immigration enforcement and the need for improved coordination between different levels of law enforcement to prevent individuals like Ribeiro-Rosa from continuing to harm communities.

The actions taken by ICE and ERO Boston in arresting Ribeiro-Rosa demonstrate their commitment to ensuring public safety and holding noncitizen criminals accountable for their actions. By apprehending individuals like Ribeiro-Rosa, who pose a threat to the community, law enforcement agencies are sending a clear message that criminal activities, regardless of immigration status, will not be tolerated. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing immigration laws to protect the well-being of residents in the United States and maintain law and order in society.

In conclusion, the arrest of Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa highlights the challenges and complexities of dealing with individuals who are in the country illegally and engage in criminal behavior. The case underscores the need for robust enforcement of immigration laws to prevent noncitizen criminals from harming communities and endangering public safety. By working together and taking decisive action against individuals like Ribeiro-Rosa, law enforcement agencies can protect residents and ensure that justice is served. ICE’s efforts to apprehend and detain Ribeiro-Rosa send a strong message that criminal activities will not be tolerated, regardless of one’s immigration status. This case serves as a call to action for continued vigilance and cooperation in upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the well-being of all individuals in the United States.
