Despite rough weather conditions during the third round of the British Open at Royal Troon, Billy Horschel managed to take the lead with a solid 2-under 69. Players like Shane Lowry struggled, going from a three-shot lead to ninth place. Other contenders, like Xander Schauffele and Justin Rose, managed to stay in the mix with strong performances in the challenging conditions.

Masters champion Scottie Scheffler also remained in contention, only two shots behind the leader. The weather made the back nine at Royal Troon particularly difficult, with players struggling to reach par 4s in two shots and hitting driver on par 3s. Despite the tough conditions, players like Scheffler managed to make impressive shots, keeping them in the running for the title.

Horschel displayed exceptional skill in saving par on five consecutive holes on the back nine, showcasing his ability to navigate the challenging course. Meanwhile, Lowry, who had an early lead, faltered on the final stretch, finishing with a disappointing 77. The unpredictable conditions made it a tough day for all the players, with only a few managing to stay under par.

Thriston Lawrence and Sam Burns posted impressive rounds of 65, moving from 10 shots behind to contention for the title. Daniel Brown, making his major debut, also found himself in the mix, despite some late stumbles. As the final round approaches, the leaderboard remains tight, with multiple players within striking distance of the lead.

For players like Schauffele, the focus is on staying in contention and handling the pressure of the final round. With a crowded leaderboard, the competition promises to be intense as players battle to claim the coveted British Open title. Despite the challenging conditions, players like Lawrence and Burns have put themselves in a strong position to challenge for the victory.

As the tournament heads into the final day, the unpredictable weather and tough course conditions at Royal Troon have set the stage for an exciting conclusion. With multiple players in contention and the leaderboard tightly packed, the British Open title is still up for grabs. Fans can expect a thrilling finish as the world’s best players compete for glory on one of golf’s most prestigious stages.
