A tragic accident occurred during a charity motorcycle ride near High Prairie, Alberta, leaving two people dead and several others injured. Laurent Isadore, a beloved father and the organizer of the Red Road to Healing bike run, was one of the victims. Brenda Powder, his fiancée, witnessed the accident while following the convoy of bikes in a separate vehicle. She described the scene as chaotic, with bike parts and body parts scattered across the highway. Isadore’s friend, Tyler Duboski, was also killed in the accident.
The accident occurred when a semi tractor-trailer crossed the center line on Highway 2 near Sucker Creek First Nation and collided with the group of motorcycle riders. In addition to the two fatalities, six other riders were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Powder rushed to Isadore’s side after the accident and witnessed him taking his last breath. They were set to exchange vows later that month in the same community where the ride would have ended. Powder remembers Isadore’s kind spirit and his mantra of “lead with love” in everything that he did.
The Red Road to Healing bike run was organized to raise awareness and funds to help people experiencing homelessness on Treaty 8 territory. The largest treaty in Canada by area, Treaty 8 spans across multiple provinces and territories, with approximately 40,000 members in Alberta alone. Isadore was known for always going out of his way to help those in need, embodying the spirit of the charity ride. Powder hopes that people will remember Isadore’s message of leading with love and continue to support the cause that he was so passionate about.
As the investigation into the crash continues, the RCMP has stated that alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor. The community is reeling from the loss of Isadore and Duboski, as well as the injuries sustained by the other riders. Powder is left to mourn the loss of her fiancé and the future they would have had together. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can be faced on the road, even during charitable events meant to bring people together.
