The General Directorate of Meteorology warned 10 provinces, including Ankara, against heavy rainfall. The capital was affected by sporadic showers that started around noon, causing disruptions in daily life in districts such as Çankaya, Çubuk, Akyurt, Kahramankazan, Pursaklar, Keçiören, Etimesgut, Yenimahalle, Sincan, Gölbaşı, and Mamak.
The city was inundated with water due to the heavy rainfall, filling underpasses as well as streets and avenues. Drivers faced difficulties navigating through traffic, with some vehicles getting stuck in water puddles. A person stranded at a bus stop in front of Melike Hatun Mosque in Ulus was rescued with the help of bystanders. Additionally, some homes and businesses had their ground and basement floors flooded.
The Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ) teams worked on opening drainage grates at points where water collected. As the showers continued intermittently, the Ankara Governor’s Office warned residents to be cautious and take necessary precautions against sudden floods, water inundation, lightning strikes, localized hailstorms, sudden severe winds, and brief storms causing disruptions in transportation.
In addition to Ankara, several other provinces throughout Turkey were also under the Meteorology General Directorate’s warning for heavy rainfall. The heavy showers in Ankara led to traffic jams and flooded streets, posing a danger to drivers and pedestrians. Rescue operations were carried out in various areas to assist those affected by the floods and to mitigate the damage caused by the extreme weather conditions.
With the warning from meteorological authorities, residents of Ankara were advised to stay informed about weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions, and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents or damage. Authorities also urged people living in flood-prone areas to be prepared for potential evacuations and to follow safety guidelines to avoid injuries or fatalities during extreme weather events.
