Heavy rainfall in the afternoon in the Ayaş region led to the accumulation of water on the road, requiring teams to work for approximately 8 hours to drain the water. As a result of their efforts, both directions of the road were opened to traffic in a controlled manner, with transportation being provided in both directions through a single lane. The drainage work on the road is still ongoing.
Due to the heavy rainfall in the capital city, particularly in the Sincan district and Ayaş road, many areas experienced flooding. Numerous vehicles were stuck in the water on the road and were removed with the efforts of teams and citizens. Some individuals were rescued from their vehicles and brought to the roadside with the help of excavators. Vehicles that had broken down or been stranded due to the rain were loaded onto tow trucks and taken away from the area. Teams sent to the region are still working to drain the water that has accumulated on the road by trying to clear the clogged drainage systems. Therefore, vehicle passage is still not allowed on the Ayaş road.
At the entrance of the Sincan Törekent Metro, where water had risen up to the ceiling due to heavy rainfall, efforts were made to drain the water with the use of pumps. As a result, metro transportation was disrupted at some points in the city. A citizen named Naci Efe, whose wife and child were stranded in a vehicle during the rain, expressed frustration at the lack of assistance provided by the municipality, stating that they had been waiting for help for several hours. Another individual, a minibus driver named Meftun Körlü, mentioned that they had been stranded in their vehicle for a while due to the heavy rain, but managed to evacuate all passengers safely with the help of excavators. Metro services were halted due to flooding at metro entrances.
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality announced that some metro stations had experienced an increase in water levels and that drainage work was ongoing. Until the work is completed, there will be no service between certain metro stations, and transportation will be provided by shuttle buses. The municipality thanked the public for their understanding and patience during the unusual circumstances caused by the heavy rainfall. According to data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Meteorology Directorate, the highest amount of rainfall in Ankara within 6 hours was recorded in the Sincan district, with other districts also experiencing varying levels of rainfall. The rainy weather is expected to continue intermittently into the late hours of the night, with no further rainfall expected from the following day. Additionally, temperatures in Ankara are forecasted to be above seasonal norms starting from Tuesday.
