Harris Collects $27 Million in New York Fundraiser, Vows to Deliver Economic Speech this Week

Vice President Kamala Harris recently held a fundraiser in New York City, raising a substantial $27 million. This marked her largest fundraising haul since she took over as the Democratic presidential nominee from President Joe Biden. The event, held at Cipriani Wall Street, attracted a packed crowd in a grand Greek Revival ballroom. During her speech, Harris took shots at former President Donald Trump, calling for another debate before Election Day. Despite having more funds than Trump, Harris recognizes the need to compete with well-funded outside groups supporting the former president through costly advertising.

Harris expressed her intention to deliver a speech outlining her economic vision, emphasizing the need for investments in American aspirations while addressing the challenges faced by the public. She mentioned issues such as the high cost of homeownership and rising grocery bills as areas that require attention. By elaborating on her economic agenda in detail, Harris aims to distance herself from the economic track record of the Biden presidency and address voter concerns about soaring prices. Trump has criticized Harris for not releasing detailed policy proposals since becoming the Democratic nominee, but Harris has outlined plans for middle-class tax cuts, tax hikes on the wealthy and corporations, and other economic reforms.

The latest poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicates that neither Harris nor Trump has a significant advantage in public perception when it comes to handling the economy. Approximately 4 in 10 registered voters believe Trump would be better at managing the economy, while a similar number favor Harris. The economy emerges as a key issue for voters, outweighing concerns about healthcare and crime. Harris has moved away from some liberal positions she held during her unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, such as banning fracking and establishing a single-payer healthcare system. She has also distanced herself from proposals to decriminalize illegal border crossings.

As the election season progresses, the debate over economic policies and plans remains at the forefront of the campaign. Harris continues to build momentum with her fundraising efforts and speeches outlining her vision for the country’s economic future. With the public closely watching both candidates’ economic proposals, Harris seeks to gain ground on an issue that was once considered a strength for Trump. The upcoming debates and campaign events will provide further insight into the candidates’ plans to address economic challenges and opportunities. Harris’s fundraising success in New York City underscores the support and momentum behind her campaign as she vies for the presidency in a closely contested race.
