The Easter long weekend in Hamilton, Burlington, and the Niagara Region brings a rare four-day holiday for some. Several businesses and services will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, or Easter Monday. Administrative offices, licensing and bylaw services, and green bin, garbage, and recycling collections will be closed on Friday and Monday. HSR buses will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Friday and a regular schedule on Monday, while GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday. Various other services and facilities such as Ontario Works, recreation centres, museums, and the public library will also be closed during the holiday weekend.

In Burlington, administrative services, animal shelter and control, and recreation centres will be closed or have limited hours during the holiday weekend. Burlington Transit will operate on a holiday schedule on Sunday, while free parking will be available in the downtown core on Friday and Monday. Some outdoor recreation facilities will also be open if weather permits, while the Tyandaga Golf Course will be closed until its tentative season opener on April 6. In St. Catharines, government offices, parks, recreation, and culture services, and community centres will also be closed or have reduced hours during the holiday weekend. The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will be closed on Good Friday but open the rest of the long weekend.

Business hours for Canada Post, grocery stores, pharmacies like Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall, and major shopping centres in the area will be affected by the holiday weekend. The Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Some Walmart locations will be open, including the Niaga Falls Supercentre. Wine Rack locations in Hamilton will have varied hours, with most closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday except for specific locations in Ancaster and Burlington. In Niagara Falls and Toronto, some tourist attractions will be closed while others, like Niagara City Cruises, the Toronto Zoo, Ripley’s Aquarium, and more, will operate on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Overall, the Easter weekend brings both closures and adjusted hours to various businesses, services, and tourist destinations in the Hamilton, Burlington, and Niagara Region. From government offices and recreational facilities to grocery stores and shopping malls, it’s important for residents and visitors to plan ahead and be aware of the changes in operating hours during the holiday weekend. Whether enjoying local attractions or simply running errands, it’s best to check the specific schedules of each location to avoid any inconvenience during the Easter long weekend.
