Greg Abbott vows to continue transporting migrants to NYC and criticizes Mayor Eric Adams during NRA address

Texas Governor Greg Abbott made a statement at the National Rifle Association convention in Dallas, promising to continue bussing migrants to sanctuary cities in the U.S. until President Joe Biden starts enforcing immigration laws. He specifically mentioned sending migrants to New York City, taking a jab at Mayor Eric Adams in the process. Abbott criticized the Biden administration for failing to address immigration issues and vowed to take action by transporting migrants to cities for support.

In response to Abbott’s comments, a woman in the crowd suggested sending the migrants to New York, to which the governor replied affirmatively. He also made a mocking remark about Mayor Adams needing “something to do.” A spokesperson for Mayor Adams criticized Abbott, labeling him as a “coward” who manipulates human beings for political gain. The spokesperson highlighted Abbott’s lack of leadership in Texas, where murder rates have reportedly risen, calling for the governor to focus on his responsibilities rather than using migrants for political purposes.

The Adams administration in New York City has been assisting and providing care to over 197,000 migrants since the spring of 2022. The strain of asylum seekers entering the US-Mexico border has led to an overflow of migrants being transported to Democrat-run cities, including New York. The city government has taken legal action against 17 busing companies, seeking $700 million in damages for helping Governor Abbott execute his plan of transferring migrants to cities like New York, Chicago, and Denver. The lawsuit accuses the bus companies of acting in bad faith and profiting from this operation.

One of the busing companies involved in transporting migrants agreed to cease bussing individuals to New York City, signaling a potential shift in the transportation network. City Hall has been contacted for comment on the lawsuit and ongoing situation with the abundance of asylum seekers being relocated to New York. Mayor Adams’ administration has been focused on providing assistance and support to migrants arriving in the city, while simultaneously addressing the legal battle with the bus companies involved in the transportation of individuals who have crossed the border seeking asylum. The city is seeking financial compensation from the companies for the costs incurred as a result of Abbott’s migration strategy.
