John Tinniswood, a British great-grandfather from Southport, Merseyside, has been named the oldest living man in the world at 111 years old. He attributes his longevity to his love of fish and chips, which he enjoys once a week at a famous chippy in Southport. Mr. Tinniswood, who was born in the same year as the Titanic’s maiden voyage, has met the Queen twice and will turn 112 on August 2. He became the oldest living man after the recent deaths of his rivals for the title.

Mr. Tinniswood’s fondness for fish and chips began when he was younger, and he has continued to enjoy the dish throughout his life. He recalls visiting a chippy called The Swan in Southport, where the smell of fish was always prevalent. Despite his age, he feels just as young as he did in his 80s and credits his love for fish and chips as a factor in his longevity. He also stays active by engaging in conversations with the staff at his care home and believes that learning something new every day is essential for staying sharp.

During the Second World War, John Tinniswood served in an administrative role with the Royal Mail due to issues with his eyesight. It was during this time that he met his late wife, Blodwen, at a dance in Liverpool. They married in 1942 and had a daughter named Susan in 1943. The couple enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Blodwen passed away in 1986. Mr. Tinniswood, an avid Liverpool FC fan, has also been involved in activities like hiking with the Liverpool Rambler’s Association, which he believes has contributed to his health and well-being.

As the oldest living man in the world, Mr. Tinniswood received a card from the King on his last birthday and has become a symbol of longevity and vitality. Despite his age, he remains active and engaged, continuing to find joy in his favorite dish of fish and chips. His story serves as an inspiration to others, showing that a positive attitude, love for good food, and staying active can lead to a long and fulfilling life. John Tinniswood’s journey is a testament to the power of simple pleasures and the importance of staying mentally and physically active as we age. His story reminds us that age is just a number and that it’s never too late to enjoy life and pursue our passions.
