Formula One races are a thrilling experience for audiences, with cars zooming past at speeds of around 200 mph. These races are held around the world, with each one known as a Grand Prix. Drivers compete in a long season, earning points at each race, with the driver accumulating the most points being crowned the world champion at the conclusion of the season. Here is everything you need to know about the Grand Prix races of Formula One.

The term “Grand Prix” is French for “grand prize” and was originally used to refer to a country’s largest or most prestigious F1 race. Today, it is used to describe the main event of a race weekend, typically taking place on a Sunday. A Grand Prix weekend typically lasts three days, beginning on a Friday and concluding with the main event on Sunday. Formula One is considered the pinnacle of motorsport and the world’s most prestigious motor racing competition, featuring the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula racing cars.

In Formula One, the champion is decided based on the points accumulated by each driver throughout the season. Points are awarded based on the driver’s performance in each Grand Prix, with 25 points going to the race winner. Additional points are awarded in descending order to the top finishers, with extra points available for the driver setting the fastest lap and for F1 Sprint races, which are shorter races than the typical F1 events. These races are only 100 km in distance.

The 2024 Formula One season features 20 drivers from 10 teams competing for the championship. Max Verstappen, who won the championship in the previous year, is considered the frontrunner for the 2024 season. Verstappen, the youngest winner in history, races for Red Bull Racing alongside teammate Sergio Pérez. The season includes races in 21 countries across five continents, including iconic locations such as Monaco, Miami, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, and Las Vegas. The season kicked off in February and will culminate in Abu Dhabi in December.

The Monaco Grand Prix, considered one of the most prestigious races in the world, will take place from May 24-26 as part of the 2024 season. Other significant events on the calendar include races in Miami, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, and Las Vegas. Formula One races are known for their high-speed thrills and intense competition, attracting a global audience of motorsport enthusiasts. With talented drivers, cutting-edge technology, and iconic race tracks, Formula One continues to captivate audiences around the world.
