In track and field, the Americans saw the most success, winning a total of 34 medals, including 14 gold, 11 silver, and nine bronze. American track star Noah Lyles earned his first Olympic gold by winning the men’s 100-meter final, while other athletes set records and achieved notable wins in various events. In swimming, Team USA topped the gold medal count with eight golds, with Katie Ledecky standing out as she won her ninth Olympic gold medal. The U.S. took home 28 total swimming medals, including 13 silver and seven bronze.
Simone Biles made history in gymnastics by winning three gold medals to solidify her status as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. American Stephen Nedoroscik also earned a bronze medal in the men’s pommel horse event. The U.S. won a total of nine gymnastics medals, including Biles’ three gold, one silver, and five bronze. In wrestling, Team USA secured two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, with standout performances from Sarah Hildebrandt and Amit Elor.
Shooting saw Vincent Hancock making history by winning his fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal in men’s skeet, while the fencing team claimed Team USA’s first gold medal in the event by defeating Italy. Skateboarding, cycling, rowing, weightlifting, archery, and other sports also contributed to Team USA’s success with multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals. The women’s soccer team clinched their fifth gold medal, and the men’s basketball team secured their fifth straight gold, among other notable achievements.
Various athletes across different disciplines, including surfing, artistic swimming, BMX freestyle, canoe sprint, diving, equestrian, mountain biking, triathlon, basketball 3×3, boxing, breaking, canoe slalom, rugby, sailing, taekwondo, and water polo, also represented Team USA and earned medals. The U.S. women’s rugby sevens team picked up their first-ever medal in the event by winning bronze.
